CALL FOR DDV PRESENTATIONS

OVERVIEW
The Data Duplication Village is announcing their 2024 call for presentations to be held at DEF CON 32 in Las Vegas, NV on Friday, August 9th and Saturday, August 10th. The DDV’s goal is to help the information security community by providing helpful information through duplication of large amounts of data including all the past hacking related convention material that can be found, rainbow tables, and more. We also providing direct talks to further provide helpful information.
Our audience ranges from those who are new to data storage, transfer, and security to the most seasoned practitioners in the industry discussing their experiences and insights into the future of storage and data protection. New presentors are very welcome! This is your chance to give back to the community!
The kinds of talks we're looking for are:
Attacking: Methods and techniques for attacking the systems, technology, and procedures involved with data storage, data replication and/or duplication, data transit, data integrety, etc... How to approach an SSD vs. a HD differently.
Detecting: Identifying storage surveillance methods, how to identify and potentially recover data on magnetic media, volatile and non-volatile memory. How to detect things (or people) who could affect data at rest in their various mediums. Drive forensic methodologies.
Protecting: How to prevent, minimize, and recover from data-loss, corruption, or physical damage. How to effectively destroy data (in an authorized capacity, of course). What attributes affect data over time? Who are we protecting our data at rest from?
Something Else: These are some of the topics that loosely align with the Data Duplication Village's goal and are just a starting point. Remember, that this is DEF CON so we'll consider all subjects.
Along with DefCon’s mission, we do not, accept product or vendor related pitches. If your content is an attempted advertisement for a product or service your company is offering, it will not be accepted. All accepted presentations will be announced, may be recorded, and are likely to be published by DEF CON Communications, Inc.
Send your submission in the body of an email or within an attached .txt file. Applications are requested in plain text only to prevent formatting or compatibility error. Submissions in .pdf, .docx, .odf, mdf, or any other formats may prevent your talk from being reviewed. Submit in a single text file only, not in parts. Supporting files may be included as required.
Each speaking slot is a 1 hour, 1.5, or possibly 2 slots back to back (better be a really good subject!). This should include 10-20 minutes of time for Q&A. If your presentation works with our goals and/or topics mentioned above there is a very good chance you will be selected.
The Call for Presentations will close on June 30th at 11:59 PM (PST). All submissions will be reviewed and responded to with all selections made and scheduled by July 10th.

ABSTRACT:
Your abstract will be used for the website and printed materials. Summarize what your presentation will cover. Attendees will read this to get an idea of what they should know before your presentation, and what they will learn after. Be creative as this abstract is the primary way people will be drawn to your session. Use this to inform about how technical your talk is. Will the attendees bet more out of the talk by being familiar with specific tools or are there materials you suggest to read in advance to get the most out of your presentation. Your abstract should be between 256 characters, but at or under the 1337 maximum.
SPEAKER'S BIO(S):
This text will be used for the website and printed materials and should be written in the third person. Cover any professional or other history that is relevant to the presentation, including past jobs, tools that you have written, etc. Let people know who you are and why you are qualified to speak on your topic. Social Media tags are permitted.
DETAILED OUTLINE:
You must provide an outline containing the main points of your presentation. This is critical for an effective CFP review. Show how you intend to begin, where you intend to lead the audience and how you plan to get there. The outline may be provided in a separate attachment and may be as simple as a text file or as detailed as a "bare bones" presentation. The better your outline then the better we are able to review your presentation against other submissions (and the higher chance you have of being accepted). SUBMISSION NOTE: Presentations that are submitted without abstracts, outlines, or speaker bios (e.g., that have only PDFs, PPTs, or white papers attached or only point to a URL) will not be considered. We are not asking for a complete presentation for this initial submission. That will only be required if you are selected for presenting.
SUPPORTING FILE(S):
Additional supporting materials such as code, white papers, proof of concept, etc. should be sent along with the submission file. Note that additional files that may help in the selection process should be included.
SPECIAL REQUESTS:
There will be 1 projector feed for your laptop/material, and microphones. Expect to be able to connect to the projector via an HDMI connector. If you need another type of connector, request this when submitting your presentation along with any other special needs or requests.

TERMS OF SPEAKING REQUIREMENTS
1. I will submit a completed presentation and a reference to all of the tool(s), law(s), Web sites and/or publications referenced to at the end of my talk and as described in this CFP submission by noon PST, July 14th, 2023.
2. I will submit a final Abstract and Biography to the Data Duplication Village by noon PST, July 14th, 2024.
3. I will include a detailed bibliography as either a separate document or included within the presentation of all resources cited and/or used in my presentation.
4. I will complete my presentation within the time allocated to me - not running over or excessively under the time allocation.
5. I understand that the Data Duplication Village will provide 1 LCD projector feed, and microphones. I understand that I am responsible for providing all other necessary equipment, including laptops and machines (with VGA/HDMI output), to complete my presentation.
6. I understand that I will be responsible for my own hotel and travel expenses, and admission to the DEF CON Conference.
